K2 BASE CAMP

K2 base camp

Pakistan - 5,150m / 16,896ft

(Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir)

  • this trek takes us up the Baltoro Glacier where we also trek to the base camps of the other 8000m mountains nearby – Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. We’re also excited to see the spectacular Trango Towers on the trek

  • how to get there – fly from Islamabad to Skardu. If the flight is cancelled we will need to drive there on the infamous ‘KKH’ – the Karakoram Highway. We then drive by jeep to Askole to start the trek up the Baltoro Glacier.

  • number of days trekking – 16 days with extra days at either end to fly/drive

  • best time of year to trek – July/August, which is also the climbing season

  • on the same trip we added on a short trek to Nanga Parbat to achieve our target of the 5 base camps in Pakistan. This is in a different area to the other base camps above.
