Annapurna Base Camp Trek
We saved the best for last - Annapurna Base Camp was our 14th and final base camp, completing Project Base8000 in style under a perfect blue sky. The trek via Poon Hill delivers one of the great Himalayan panoramas. Our full adventure story, tips and video included.
Manaslu Base Camp Trek
Rain, leeches, monsoon rivers, a helicopter evacuation and fractured ribs — the Manaslu Base Camp Trek (via the Manaslu Circuit) was our most eventful base camp yet. We joined a mountaineering expedition in climbing season, experiencing a tent city and a moving Puja ceremony at 4,881m. First-hand story, circuit trek tips and video included.
Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek
The Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek (Dhaulagiri Circuit) - is one of Nepal's toughest and most remote trekking challenges. This was our 7th base camp, marking the halfway point of Project Base8000, and every bit as dramatic as we'd hoped. Full adventure story, safety tips and video included.
Shishapangma Base Camp Trek
We nearly didn't make it to Shishapangma Base Camp — the mountain was closed by Chinese authorities, our driver was reluctant, and a park custodian ambushed us on a rocky dirt road. Against the odds, we made it to North Base Camp at 5,157m in Tibet, only for the clouds to roll in and hide the mountain entirely. A short but eventful adventure story, with tips and video.
Cho Oyu Base Camp Trek (and Advance BC)
Trekking to Cho Oyu Advance Base Camp at 5,800m in Tibet — the highest altitude we'd reached — was a stark, surreal and unforgettable experience. We joined a mountaineering expedition, navigating Chinese military checkpoints, yaks on the glacier, and the breathtaking Nangpa La. First-hand story, practical tips and video included.
Makalu Base Camp Trek (and Advance BC)
The Makalu Barun Valley — dubbed the "Yosemite of Nepal" — is one of the most remote and pristine trekking regions in the Himalayas. We trekked all the way to Makalu Advance Base Camp at 5,700m, embedded with a mountaineering expedition under the world's 5th highest mountain. First-hand story, trek tips and video included.
Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek – North and South
Trekking to both Kanchenjunga North and South Base Camps in far-eastern Nepal was one of our most rewarding adventures - remote, spectacular, and almost entirely crowd-free. We trekked the full Kanchenjunga Circuit through the Conservation Area, with its red pandas, snow leopards, and stunning views of Mt Jannu. First-hand story, practical tips and insights included.
Everest Base Camp Trek – 60th Anniversary
We trekked to Everest Base Camp to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first ascent - with dinner suits, no less. This is our first-hand adventure story of the iconic Khumbu Valley trek, including a brush with altitude sickness, the Tenzing Hillary Marathon, and getting stranded in Lukla. Includes AMS prevention tips and insights for trekkers.
